A dental implant is a very good solution for a lost tooth. For the long term success of implants, maintenance is key!
Implants need regular care to avoid disease of the implant, so called peri-implant disease. Dental implants are less resistant to infection than teeth. Thus infection control is crucial!
Bacteria cause inflammation in the soft tissues around the implants. This may lead to loss of bone and, in worst case, your implant. Keep your implant healthy!
Regular cleaning of dental implants is important to hinder progression of disease and avoid loss of bone around the implant, over time. It is very important that you are seen on a regular basis by your dentist or dental hygienist to disclose any clinical signs of implant disease.
Your dentist or dental hygienist will clean your dental implants two to four times a year depending on presence of clinical signs of inflammation (bleeding, aka mucositis).
